Texting While Driving

Athena

Recently Massachusetts has passed a no texting while driving law. Texting and driving has resulted in multiple and countless accidents. A survey was conducted in the United States among sixteen to seventeen year old drivers by the Automobile Association of America. Of young people surveyed, and about 45% admitted to the fact that they text while driving.

The biggest distraction for teenagers while they are driving is texting. More than 330,000 people of all ages are injured in cell phone related accidents. Approximately 2,000 deaths were due to cell phone distractions.

Texting became the new distraction for driving since the no talking on the phone rule. This rule is enforced to have young people aware of the dangers of this action. Teenagers are said to text throughout the day and they bring this habit behind the wheel. If you’re lucky, then all you would get is a ticket and a slap on the wrist, but if you are not so fortunate than your parents will be attending your funeral instead of your graduation. So if you ever see one of your relatives or friends talking or texting while driving make sure to stop them because that may be all it takes to save a life.
